Waking Up With Michelangelo

Meet Michelangelo, the star of our latest trailer.

He was the first turtle we found during our 24-hour turtle watch. Michelangelo is a green sea turtle and compared to Loreta?   He is just a kid.

Here are a few fun facts about the green sea turtle! These facts were provided by the National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Size: After hatching, what starts out as .05 lbs and roughly two inches will grow into a strong 350 lb, three foot adult turtle.

Physical Characteristics: Painted with colors, their top shells are a blend of black, grey, green, brown, and yellow. The bottom shell consists of yellow-white mixture.

Lifespan: Little is known about how long they live, but it is known that these majestic sea creatures reach sexual maturity around 20 to 50 years old.

Diet: Green on the outside, and the inside too, these animals can attribute their coloring and size from their very healthy, all vegetarian diet.

Behavior: Like the fishermen in our story, these sea turtles are set in tradition. For example, female green turtles travel back to the very same beaches of their birth.

As fascinating as all those facts are the most exciting part of this rare encounter is that our documentary class got to name it! (And by “we” we mean our very own Samantha Finch.)
